Real Oviedo sit within four points of a promotion spot with a 1-0 victory over Gimnastic today at Carlos Tartiere. After 17 league matches, Oviedo have 26 points and sit fifth in the table; third place Sevilla Atletico have 27 and second place Girona FC have 30.
The scoring in today’s match was finished early as Toche scored the game’s lone goal in the ninth minute. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Today’s result comes in a run of inconsistent play by Oviedo. Last weekend, they were thrashed by relegation-battling AD Alcoron 5-1, but the week prior defeat league leader Levante 2-0 at home. The club is struggling on the road but has performed well in front of the home crowd in Carlos Tartiere.
Another positive for the club is the Michu’s improving form. The former Swansea City star who is rebuilding a once-promising career at his first professional club. He finally scored his first goal against Levante. With the club having only scored 17 goals on the season, they will need him in shape to help spur the attack.
